Participant, ‘Fundraising from Trusts and Foundations’ training for SHARED Enterprise

What does the training cover?

Trusts and Foundations represent a vital income stream for most arts and culture organisations and they are often the first place people will go when looking for philanthropic income. As a result, the process of securing funding is getting increasingly more competitive. You need to ensure your organisation has the skills to stand out from the crowd.

This one-day session looks at the full process, from initially identifying potential funders through to writing compelling proposals, and then through to building the relationships further. Using both theory and practical exercises, this course answers the following questions:

  • How do you identify potential trust funders?
  • How can you identify and prioritise your best prospects?
  • What are the advantages of cultivating trust prospects?
  • How do you write proposals that stand out from the crowd?
  • How can you build the relationship after the decision?

At the end of this workshop, you will have greater confidence and understanding in:

  • Using a range of tools to identify trust prospects
  • The key factors to research and consider when prioritising your prospects
  • Building the relationship with potential funders prior to submitting a proposal
  • Structuring your proposal to make your case in a clear, compelling way
  • Dealing with both success and rejection following your proposal

What do previous participants say?

David is both highly knowledgeable and gifted in translating this in a way that is understandable to absolute beginners in fundraising. Talks are interesting and illustrated with well-chosen real world examples. After the sessions I felt able to take the information and examples of good practice and use them to help my organisation.

Participant – Essex Record Office

I really enjoyed the training, and felt I got a lot out of it. I particularly enjoyed the practical session, being a trustee and trying to summarise and assess an application in a short space of time.  From this, I learned a lot about how to frame a proposal, with the Trust/trustees in mind.

Participant – Royal Pavilion & Museums

We enjoyed working with David and appreciated his knowledge and skills. He pitched his information just right. He never shied away from specific or tricky questions.
