"A really great day. I got so much out of it. I would definitely recommend to all!"
Participant, ‘Making the Ask’ training for Hampshire Cultural Trust
What does the training cover?
Despite it being a crucial part of fundraising, the act of asking someone for money is often cited by fundraisers as being the most daunting part of their job. This is particularly true for people for whom fundraising is just one part of a wider role, such as Chief Executives, artists and board members.
Through this one-day session we examine the process of asking for money from the point of view of both the fundraiser and the potential supporter. Using both theory and practical exercises, this course answers the following questions:
- What are the key components of a successful ask?
- How do you ensure you are asking for the right thing?
- How do you frame your ask?
- How do you build rapport with a potential supporter?
- What do you do after making the ask?
At the end of this workshop, you will have greater confidence and understanding in:
- Making appropriate asks based on your potential supporter’s motivations and interests
- Knowing when to make the ask, what channel to use and who should make the ask
- Preparing for the ask to give the best chance of success
- Building rapport with potential donors
- Dealing with both success and rejection following an ask
